When I cycled around the world a couple of years ago, I created this site both to keep friends and family updated as to my progress, and to share some of my experiences with anyone who was thinking of doing something similar.

In the Round The World section, you can find advice and guidance on how to tour by bicycle; what kind of bike to choose, what equipment to take, how to plan a route, where to stay and what to see. My diary, photos and travelogue are also included.

Since my round the world adventure, I have had to content myself with some shorter two or three-week cycling trips. When I was planning a tour of Portugal, I found it really difficult to find quality information from books or websites about cycle touring in that country. This led me to the idea of expanding and developing globalspokes to include information and guidance on some of the less well-known places to take a cycling tour or holiday.

I have included some practical advice, as well as some of my own views and experiences, and of course, photos. You can access the pages by clicking on relevant link on the home page.
