Taking a year off work, mid-career, to cycle round the world may seem like a mammoth logistical task and in some ways, I suppose it is. To make it possible, I have taken the whole, and broken it down into all its' component parts, and then dealt with each one at a time. By doing this, I have challenged many of the reasons why people say, "I'd love to do something like that, but I can't". Planning this trip has taken me the best part of twelve months; preparing for departure, another four or five months. This section of my website will give you some insight into what that planning and preparation has involved. In the Logistics section, I explain how I approached issues relating to my career, my house, health, documentation, money, communications, raising money for charity, travel arrangements and insurance. The Route and Stay & See sections outline my rationale for choosing countries and places to visit, and how I intend to stay in those places. The Equipment section takes you through my list of things that I will be taking, and offers advice for prospective cycle tourists who may be planning adventures of their own, long or short. |
